How to make Bisi Bele Bath

Cook rice & dal
Wash and soak rice and dal for 30 minutes. Pressure-cook with turmeric and 5 cups of water for 4–5 whistles, then mash lightly.

Cook the vegetables
Simmer the vegetables in tamarind water with salt until just tender.

Add the masala
Stir in the bisi bele bath powder and jaggery. Simmer for 5 minutes until fragrant.

Combine
Add the mashed rice and dal. Mix well and loosen with hot water; it should be soft and pourable.

Temper
Heat ghee, fry mustard, red chillies, cashews, curry leaves and hing. Pour over the bath.
