What does "certified refurbished" mean?
"Certified refurbished" means the seller has put the laptop through a defined inspection process and is willing to stand behind it with a warranty.
The word "certified" isn't regulated in India, so it's only as good as the seller using it. A meaningful certification should tell you three things:
- What was checked. Ask for the checklist. At Whynew, it covers performance, display, keyboard, ports, wireless, audio, camera and battery. See our checklist.
- What condition it's in. A clear grade that describes the cosmetic condition honestly.
- What happens if something goes wrong. A written warranty and a return window.
If a seller says "certified" but can't explain what it certifies, treat it as marketing, not a promise.
Manufacturer-certified vs seller-certified
Some refurbished units are certified by the original brand (for example, Apple Certified Refurbished). Most in India are certified by the refurbisher. Both can be excellent — what matters is the testing and the warranty. More on that difference.
