What do refurbished laptop grades (A, B, C) mean?

Grades describe how a laptop looks, not how it works. At a good refurbisher, every grade passes the same functional tests. The grade just tells you about scratches, scuffs and dents.

Here's how we grade at Whynew:

• Grade A: very clean. At most, light marks you have to look for.
• Grade A-: light scuffs or small marks on the lid or base. Nothing that affects use.
• Grade B+: visible cosmetic wear such as scratches or small dents. Works exactly like a Grade A unit and costs less.
• Grade B: clear signs of use on the body. Still fully functional.

We don't sell units with cracked screens, broken hinges or missing keys — those aren't a grade, they're a repair.

Which grade should you pick?

If the laptop is going in a bag every day, a B+ saves you money and the next scratch won't bother you. If it's a gift or you care about looks, go for A. Why grades aren't standard across sellers.
