How many quality checks does a refurbished laptop go through?
Sellers often advertise a number — 40-point, 50-point and so on. The number matters less than what's actually covered.
A thorough check should cover at least:
- Performance: processor under load, memory, storage health
- Display: dead pixels, backlight, brightness, hinge
- Input: every key, touchpad, buttons, TrackPoint
- Ports: each USB, HDMI, audio and charging port
- Wireless: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- Media: webcam, microphone, speakers
- Power: battery capacity, charging, adapter
- Security: no account locks, BIOS passwords or management profiles
- Software: genuine, activated OS; drivers installed
