HP ProBook 640 G4 · Intel Core i5 (8th Gen) · 14" HD · 8 GB / 256 GB SSD

Business laptops are built to last far longer than consumer ones — and this HP ProBook 640 G4 is a good example. The ProBook 600 series sits between HP's ProBook and EliteBook lines — business-grade build, plenty of ports and very practical to live with. The 640 G4 is a slimmer ProBook with a USB-C port on most units.

The Core i5 is the sweet spot for most people — quick enough for multitasking, Office, coding and online classes, without the extra cost of an i7. 8th generation was a big jump for Intel: it was the first time thin business laptops got four cores instead of two. In practice that means noticeably smoother multitasking than older models — this is the generation we most often recommend. 8 GB of RAM is comfortable for everyday multitasking — browser, Office, music and a video call. Storage is a 256 GB SSD, so start-up and file loading are fast. The 14-inch HD screen is fine for documents, browsing and video.
