Lenovo ThinkPad T440p · Intel Core i5 (4th Gen) · 14" HD · 8 GB / 256 GB SSD

Looking for something dependable rather than flashy? This Lenovo ThinkPad T440p ticks that box. The 'p' models were the performance version of the ThinkPad T-series — full-power processors (with quad-core options), better cooling and room for more memory, in a body that's still manageable to carry. The T440p is famous among ThinkPad enthusiasts for being easy to open up and upgrade.

The Core i5 is the sweet spot for most people — quick enough for multitasking, Office, coding and online classes, without the extra cost of an i7. This 4th-generation chip is older, but paired with an SSD it still handles documents, browsing, email and video calls comfortably. With 8 GB of memory, switching between Chrome, Word and Zoom stays smooth. Storage is a 256 GB SSD, so start-up and file loading are fast. The 14-inch HD screen is fine for documents, browsing and video.

Build and everyday use

Thicker and heavier than a regular T-series (about 1.8 kg), but that bulk goes into cooling and upgradeability. Full ThinkPad keyboard with TrackPoint and physical mouse buttons. It runs Windows 10 Pro. One honest note: Microsoft ended free security updates for Windows 10 in October 2025, so this is best for offline or office-network use, or enrol it in Microsoft's paid Extended Security Updates.
