Dell Latitude 7240 · Intel Core i5 (4th Gen) · 12.5" HD · 8 GB / 256 GB SSD

Business laptops are built to last far longer than consumer ones — and this Dell Latitude 7240 is a good example. The Latitude 7000 series is Dell's premium business line — what companies issued to managers and people who travel. Lighter, better-built and nicer to use than the 5000 or 3000 series. The 7240 is a compact 12.5-inch premium Latitude from 2014 — small, sturdy and cheap to own.

The Core i5 is the sweet spot for most people — quick enough for multitasking, Office, coding and online classes, without the extra cost of an i7. This 4th-generation chip is older, but paired with an SSD it still handles documents, browsing, email and video calls comfortably. With 8 GB of memory, switching between Chrome, Word and Zoom stays smooth. The 256 GB SSD means it boots in seconds and apps open quickly. The 12.5-inch HD screen is fine for documents, browsing and video.

Build and everyday use

Slim magnesium or aluminium body, usually 1.2–1.4 kg, with a quality feel. Backlit keyboard on most units and a precise touchpad. It runs Windows 10 Pro. One honest note: Microsoft ended free security updates for Windows 10 in October 2025, so this is best for offline or office-network use, or enrol it in Microsoft's paid Extended Security Updates. Ask us if you'd prefer a Windows 11 option.

Upgrades

Depending on the exact model, RAM is either in slots or soldered — we'll confirm before you upgrade. The M.2 SSD is replaceable.

Who it suits

Professionals who travel, managers, and anyone who wants a premium feel at a sensible price. It sits in our picks for students, schools, small businesses.
