Can I upgrade the RAM or SSD in a refurbished laptop?

Usually, yes — and business laptops are some of the easiest to upgrade.

RAM

• Chunky business laptops (T480, Latitude 5490, EliteBook 840 G5 and similar) usually have one or two slots, so adding RAM is easy.
• Slim models (T490s, X280, X390, T14s, many 2-in-1s) have some or all of their RAM soldered, which limits upgrades.
• MacBooks have RAM built into the chip, so it can't be upgraded.

SSD

Almost every business laptop from the last several years uses a standard M.2 SSD, so a bigger drive is a simple swap. Some older models use 2.5-inch drives, which are also easy to replace.
