Brand or configuration: what matters more?
Configuration, usually. A well-configured laptop from any of the big business brands will serve you better than a poorly configured one from your favourite brand.
In order of importance
1. Processor generation (8th gen or newer)
2. Storage type (SSD, not HDD)
3. RAM (8 GB minimum, 16 GB for heavy use)
4. Screen resolution (Full HD if you stare at it all day)
5. Condition and battery health
6. Brand and model line (business beats consumer)
When brand does matter
- If you love the ThinkPad keyboard, it's worth choosing it
- If you need macOS, only a Mac will do
- If your company standardises on one brand, matching it simplifies IT
