About this device
Our take: Buy it if you want something reliable for programmers and startups and don't want to overpay for new.
If you want Dell Precision workstation quality without paying new-laptop prices, this is the one to look at. The Precision 7000 series is Dell's heavy-duty mobile workstation — the laptop engineering, VFX and design firms buy when a normal laptop won't cut it. It's big, it's powerful and it's built to run flat out for hours. The Precision 7540 is a 15.6-inch workstation with 9th-gen H-series processors, built for long CAD and rendering sessions.
The Core i7 gives you extra headroom for heavier work: big spreadsheets, coding with several tools open, and light photo or video editing. This is a 9th-generation H-series chip — a high-performance processor with more cores than typical laptop chips, made for sustained heavy work. 16 GB of RAM gives you room for plenty of browser tabs, an IDE, Teams and Excel all at once. The 512 GB SSD means it boots in seconds and apps open quickly. The 15.6-inch HD screen is fine for documents, browsing and video.
Build and everyday use
Large, rigid chassis (2.5–3.5 kg) with serious cooling and lots of ports. Full keyboard with number pad on most models — great for CAD and spreadsheets. It comes with genuine Windows 11 Pro installed and activated.
Upgrades
Four RAM slots and several drive bays on many units, so it can be upgraded a long way.
Who it suits
CAD, 3D, simulation, video editing and data work. It sits in our picks for programmers, startups, freelancers.
Condition and what's in the box
Grade A means it looks very clean — at most, light marks you have to look for. Every unit is tested on our checklist, securely wiped, cleaned and shipped with a compatible charger, a GST invoice and 12-month warranty.
