Dell Latitude 5300 · Intel Core i7 (8th Gen) · 13.3" HD · 8 GB / 256 GB SSD

Business laptops are built to last far longer than consumer ones — and this Dell Latitude 5300 is a good example. The Latitude 5000 series is Dell's mainstream business laptop — the reliable middle of the range that most companies roll out to their staff. It balances build quality, ports and price very well. The 5300 is a 13.3-inch Latitude with a tidy, modern design — it's about as portable as the 5000 series gets.

The Core i7 gives you extra headroom for heavier work: big spreadsheets, coding with several tools open, and light photo or video editing. 8th generation was a big jump for Intel: it was the first time thin business laptops got four cores instead of two. In practice that means noticeably smoother multitasking than older models — this is the generation we most often recommend. 8 GB RAM is the right amount for study, office work and normal multitasking. The 256 GB SSD means it boots in seconds and apps open quickly. The 13.3-inch HD screen is fine for documents, browsing and video.
