About this device
Our take: A sensible, long-lasting choice — the kind of machine you stop thinking about because it just works.
Here's a ThinkPad X1 Carbon that has already proven itself in a corporate fleet, now tested and ready for its second life with you. The X1 Carbon has been Lenovo's flagship business laptop for over a decade, and this one shows why. It's the machine a lot of senior managers carried around — light enough to forget in your bag, tough enough to survive airports and client offices. This X1 Carbon runs a 10th-gen i7 with a Full HD screen — premium in every way that matters.
The Core i7 gives you extra headroom for heavier work: big spreadsheets, coding with several tools open, and light photo or video editing. 10th-generation Intel processors are quad-core, efficient and fully supported by Windows 11. It will feel quick for years of normal use. With 8 GB of memory, switching between Chrome, Word and Zoom stays smooth. Storage is a 256 GB SSD, so start-up and file loading are fast. The 14-inch Full HD screen gives you sharp text and room for two windows side by side.
Build and everyday use
The chassis mixes carbon fibre and magnesium, so it weighs a little over a kilo without feeling flimsy. The keyboard is one of the best you'll find on any laptop at any price — deep travel, quiet, and properly spaced. It comes with genuine Windows 11 Pro installed and activated.
Upgrades
Memory is soldered to the board on the X1, so buy the RAM you need now. The SSD is a standard M.2 drive and easy to upgrade.
Who it suits
Consultants, founders and anyone who works from cafés, trains and client offices. It sits in our picks for programmers, startups, freelancers.
