HP EliteBook 840 G6 · Intel Core i5 (8th Gen) · 14" HD · 8 GB / 256 GB SSD

Business laptops are built to last far longer than consumer ones — and this HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a good example. The EliteBook 800 series is HP's premium business laptop — the one HP sold to large companies that wanted something a step above the ProBook. Better materials, better screen, better keyboard. The 840 G6 is a refined 8th-gen EliteBook with a premium aluminium body.

The Core i5 is the sweet spot for most people — quick enough for multitasking, Office, coding and online classes, without the extra cost of an i7. 8th generation was a big jump for Intel: it was the first time thin business laptops got four cores instead of two. In practice that means noticeably smoother multitasking than older models — this is the generation we most often recommend. With 8 GB of memory, switching between Chrome, Word and Zoom stays smooth. Storage is a 256 GB SSD, so start-up and file loading are fast. The 14-inch HD screen is fine for documents, browsing and video.
