Dell Latitude 7400 · Intel Core i5 (8th Gen) · 14" HD · 8 GB / 256 GB SSD

Business laptops are built to last far longer than consumer ones — and this Dell Latitude 7400 is a good example. The Latitude 7000 series is Dell's premium business line — what companies issued to managers and people who travel. Lighter, better-built and nicer to use than the 5000 or 3000 series. The 7400 is a 14-inch premium Latitude with narrow bezels, so it's closer in size to a 13-inch laptop.

The Core i5 is the sweet spot for most people — quick enough for multitasking, Office, coding and online classes, without the extra cost of an i7. 8th generation was a big jump for Intel: it was the first time thin business laptops got four cores instead of two. In practice that means noticeably smoother multitasking than older models — this is the generation we most often recommend. 8 GB of RAM is comfortable for everyday multitasking — browser, Office, music and a video call. A 256 GB SSD keeps everything snappy — no waiting around for the hard drive. The 14-inch HD screen is fine for documents, browsing and video.
