How to wipe properly before selling
Windows 10/11: Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC → Remove everything, and choose "Clean the drive" when asked. It takes longer but is much more secure.
Mac (Apple silicon or T2): System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Erase All Content and Settings.
Older hard drives: use a disk-wiping tool that overwrites the whole drive.
Also remember to
- Sign out of Microsoft, Apple ID and Google accounts
- Turn off Find My Mac or Find My Device
- Remove the laptop from your Apple ID or Microsoft account online
- Back up anything you want to keep first
