Retirement is your longest goal — and your largest
With rising life expectancy, your retirement could last as long as your working life. Your corpus must beat inflation for decades while paying for everyday living, healthcare and the plans you have been postponing.
How much will you need?
A useful starting point: estimate your monthly expenses today, inflate them to your retirement year, and plan for a corpus that can fund 25–30 years of those expenses. Our retirement calculator does this for you.
Building the corpus
- Start early: a 10-year head start can halve the monthly SIP you need.
- Use equity for growth while retirement is more than 7–10 years away.
- Combine instruments: EPF, PPF, NPS and mutual funds each play a role.
- Glide path: shift gradually to stable assets as retirement approaches.
After you retire
A systematic withdrawal plan (SWP) from a balanced portfolio can create a monthly "pension" while the rest keeps growing.
