What Is PCC in Construction? Step-by-Step
PCC — Plain Cement Concrete — is the levelling bed laid before footings and below floors. It has no reinforcement but plays an important role.
Why PCC matters
- Gives a clean, level surface for steel and formwork.
- Stops footing concrete from losing water into the soil.
- Protects reinforcement from direct soil contact.
Typical mix
1:4:8 (M7.5) or 1:3:6 (M10), usually 75–100 mm thick, as specified by your engineer.
Step by step
- Excavate and compact the base.
- Lay anti-termite treatment if specified.
- Fix level pegs and shuttering.
- Pour, compact and level the concrete.
- Cure for at least 7 days before marking footings.
