Email Marketing for Beginners: Your First 90 Days
How to start an email list, what to send and how to choose software without overspending.
Email is one of the few channels where you own the audience. Here is a realistic plan for the first three months.
Days 1–30: Build the list properly
- Only add people who opted in. Buying lists damages deliverability and can break the law.
- Offer something useful for signing up: a checklist, discount or template.
- Pick a tool with a free plan — MailerLite, Brevo or Mailchimp.
- Authenticate your domain (SPF, DKIM and DMARC).
Days 31–60: Send consistently
- Choose a rhythm you can sustain — every two weeks is fine.
- One main message per email, one clear call to action.
- Set up a welcome sequence of three emails.
Days 61–90: Measure and improve
- Track clicks and replies rather than relying only on opens.
- Remove inactive subscribers periodically.
- Test subject lines and send times.
