The revitalization of the Western Ghats is crucial for South India

The Western Ghats play a crucial role in influencing the rainfall patterns in the four southern states of India, namely Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.

The Western Ghats are a mountain range that runs parallel to the western coast of the Indian subcontinent. As the moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea move towards the Western Ghats, they are forced to rise due to the mountain range’s height and shape. As the air rises, it cools and condenses, leading to the formation of clouds and rainfall.

This precipitation is vital for the four southern states of India as they receive most of their annual rainfall during the southwest monsoon season, which lasts from June to September. The Western Ghats act as a barrier for the moisture-laden winds, forcing them to rise and cool, resulting in heavy rainfall in the region. Moreover, the Western Ghats also play a crucial role in the distribution of rainfall within the region. The slopes of the Western Ghats facing the Arabian Sea receive more rainfall than the slopes facing the interior regions of the country. This variation in rainfall patterns is due to the orographic effect, where the moist air rises and cools as it passes over the mountain range, resulting in more rainfall on the windward side of the mountains. Therefore, the Western Ghats play a crucial role in the rainfall patterns of the four southern states of India and are essential for the region’s agriculture and biodiversity.

Future of the planet – The cumulative actions of mankind can only change the future

Global warming, which is caused by the increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, is having a significant impact on the world and will continue to do so in the future. Here are some of the impacts of global warming:

Global warming is causing changes in the Earth’s climate, leading to rising temperatures, changes in precipitation patterns, and more extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, floods, and hurricanes. The melting of glaciers and ice caps due to global warming is causing sea levels to rise. This rise in sea levels threatens coastal cities and low-lying areas, leading to increased flooding and erosion. Climate changes are affecting the habitats and survival of many plant and animal species. As temperatures rise, many species are forced to migrate to more suitable habitats, leading to biodiversity loss.

Consequences and the direct effect on the human life

Global warming is increasing the frequency and intensity of heat waves, leading to more heat-related illnesses and deaths. It is also leading to the spread of disease-carrying insects such as mosquitoes, which can transmit diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. The impacts of global warming are expected to have significant economic costs, including damage to infrastructure, loss of agricultural productivity, and increased costs associated with adaptation and mitigation measures.

In the future, global warming is expected to lead to even more severe impacts, including more extreme weather events, further loss of biodiversity, and increased risks to human health and well-being. However, mitigating some of these impacts through concerted efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the changing climate is possible.

The onus is on US not EVERYBODY

The future of today’s children lies in the collective actions taken today

When it comes to owning responsibility, the buck is always passed onto somebody else, it could be the Government authorities, politicians, elected representatives, or could be any other entity. This phenomenon and societal pattern must stop, and the responsibility should be taken by each individual. The individual should start seriously contemplating the necessary actions required on the ground to make a difference to his children and future citizens. Most Parents plan well for their children’s future, the planning will mainly be on the financial front, getting them educated in the best possible way, ad securing their future with substantial savings and investments.

What good will the investments be for future citizens, if the environment is contaminated, and if the very air that one breathes becomes poisonous? The reduction in rainfall will directly impact the farmers and the farming produce. With less yield, the prices of essential commodities rise and would profoundly affect the normal life of people.
